Questions and Answers
Who is HypnoBirthing® suitable for?
HypnoBirthing® is suitable for both first time mums and mums who've given birth before.
A HypnoBirth practitioner can help women who are scared of birth, who are anxious because of a bad experience last time, or who just want a calmer, easier, more natural birth experience.
Hypnobirthing® is an alternative way of giving birth if you don’t want the sometimes over-medicalised way geared to painful, possibly fearful birth, offering drugs.
Will I be 'out of it' if I use HypnoBirthing®?
No, absolutely not. With hypnosis, including the self-hypnosis of HypnoBirthing®, your mind will be fully focused, completely relaxed, fully aware of what is going on around you and totally in control - and you will be able to 'tune out' the distractions.
Will it be a completely pain-free labour and birth?
No. There are many factors that can affect a birth, some of which are outside our control, however we find that around 65-70% of HypnoBirthing® mums don't need any form of pain relief. The women feel no pain, but, typically describe the surge (contraction in medical language) sensation as “pressure”.
A further 20-25% may require mild analgesia such as gas and air.
The remaining 5-10% may fall into what we call “special circumstances” when medical intervention is needed. Indeed, this happened to one of my clients after only 3 classes, but she found that what she and her husband had learned really helped and the midwives were very impressed with how she coped.
Remember - the aim of HypnoBirthing® is not a completely pain-free and picture-perfect 'natural' birth (although that is very possible). Also, like any childbirth preparation class, the success of the techniques is related to the amount of practice you put in.
Our aim is to enable you to have a calmer, easier, more comfortable birth- where you are in control - and in a way that most mirrors Nature.
